Unless of you haven’t heard of the show before, you probably already saw previous confirmation that Singapore is one of the filming locations for Westworld, Season 3.
… Or perhaps even seen them yourselves at one of the many filming locations, like Atlas Bar a few days ago.

Why Singapore for Westworld?
In case you don’t know, Westworld is an American television series that revolves around a futuristic park which allows its visitors to live out their fantasies through artificial consciousness.
It first premiered on 2 October 2016 and now has a third season due in 2020. It’s generally favoured by critics and the audience alike, with rave reviews on almost all platforms.
Looking at the premise, Singapore is a perfect location because of its futuristic architecture and landscape.
Of course, people don’t need to know that low SES people like me don’t visit those futuristic places, but that’s another topic for another day.?
But don’t take my word for it, take words from Lisa Joy and Johnathan Nolan, the couples who are creators of the show. If you want a more detailed interview, you can visit the sources from CNA Lifestyle and Yahoo.
A full quote from Lisa Joy in the Yahoo Interview:
“When we were trying to think about what the future could look like, we scouted and examined a bunch of areas, and that’s how we came to Singapore. There’s nowhere that looks like Singapore; it’s absolutely beautiful on a purely aesthetic level. And it’s incredibly different from modernism in other cities, even the lines of it; when you look out of the window (of The Esplanade Theatre), you have these, linear lines, but it’s cross cut by these curving rows, which on film always looks so beautiful. There’s a different texture to everything and the bounce from the water off of the glass there. The other thing that’s really interesting is the incorporation of nature.
Singapore has done this incredible job of integrating nature into the city. We’re staying in the Parkroyal on Pickering and there’s greenery everywhere, just crawling up there. There’s a kind of beauty to a skyscraper.“

“We needed to create a world of fiction that was immersive, new, beautiful, gripping and fascinating. Looking outside the window at Singapore right now, where else would we go after seeing this?”
“Your architecture is so spectacular and quite singular and unique. There is a poetic shape to the skyline of Singapore that no other city has. There is a beautiful curvature to it that is really unique and interesting.”
Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, who currently works in the CBD and is a friend of the couple, had suggested Singapore as an option before.
“We were talking with him one night about designing the future. And we asked him where would be the most spectacular place be? He said, ‘Come to Singapore and check it out.’”

In case you’re a slowpoke planning on a trip to catch them filming, just know that the filming is likely to be over or near the end since it was planned for a 10-day shoot. Westworld stars were spotted since 1st July already.
But Lisa Joy doesn’t want to leave
While the co-creator might be leaving Singapore soon, I think it’s safe to say that she will be coming back in the future.
From both interviews, she shared that she loves the place and the food.
CNA:
“It’s been so inspiring but also so distracting because I want to go out into the city and eat everything!”
“I was telling my team that I don’t want to leave Singapore! I just want to sit here forever and write. It’s also appealing to me personally because you’re immersed in a culture that feels right at home. It’s this mix of modernity and antiquity which I find very interesting, and I never want to leave.”
Yahoo:
“Thank you for watching and I love Singapore and I never want to leave again. All the food (pauses) I’ll gain 13 kilograms and buy clothes two sizes bigger!”
