Evading the cops in a high-speed car chase is easy when you’re doing it with a wireless controller, but in real life, it’s anything but.
Just ask the 31-year-old man who tried to elude the police after he was caught driving at a rather slow speed along the Central Expressway (CTE)
Instead of turning into a secret mechanic’s garage and getting a ridiculously quick paint job, the man mounted a kerb and collided into a tree along Canberra Street.
The man was arrested for dangerous driving, driving without a valid driving licence, and suspected drug-related offences.
His passenger, however, managed to flee the scene.
But the law will always win, as they say, and after four days on the run, the passenger has finally been caught.
Passenger Who Escaped From The Police In Sembawang Car Chase Arrested After 4 Days On The Run
The 29-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (16 Sep) along with four others for suspected drug offences, said the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB).
Officers who were wondering why the heck the man fled the scene quickly got an answer when they raided the man’s hideout in Anchorvale Road.
The man, however, was not exactly cooperative.
Officers had to force their way in because he refused to open the door, despite their lawful orders.
Even after they managed to get in, the man put up a violent struggle and force had to be used to subdue him.
After his arrest, officers found seven packets of about 6g of Ice and various drug paraphernalia in his unit, according to CNA.
A 31-year-old Singaporean woman in the same location was also arrested for suspected drug activities.
She had her four-month-old infant with her and was later found to have abused Ice during her pregnancy.
“Appropriate arrangements were made to ensure that the welfare of the infant was taken care of. The infant was subsequently placed in the safe custody of a relative”, CNB said.
A Recap
For those who missed the famous Sembawang car chase, here’s what happened.
On Saturday (12 Sep), traffic police officers were patrolling the CTE towards Seletar Expressway at around 1.10 a.m when they noticed a car going at a rather slow speed on the extreme right lane.
An officer flagged the driver down for a routine check, as they’ve done a thousand times before, but instead of stopping, the driver sped off.
So the officers went after him and a real-life GTA-esque car chase ensued.
The man, who was driving a white hatchback, was seen racing against traffic at one point, with a car and two motorcycles trailing behind.
The man then smashed his car into a tree, and the high-octane car chase came to an end.
Getaway Driver Also Arrested
A 34-year-old getaway van driver who picked up the fleeing passenger was also arrested a few days later for suspected drug offences.
CNB officers nabbed two other people as well – a 31-year-old Singaporean man and a 25-year-old Singaporean woman – ?in a follow-up operation at Ho Ching Road.
A packet containing about 1g of Ice and various drug paraphernalia was found in their residential unit, according to CNB.
Investigations showed that the 25-year-old woman had actually purchased the drug from the car-chase suspect two weeks ago.
Yes, it was all connected.
All the suspects are being investigated for their suspected drug activities. The 29-year-old man will also be investigated for traffic offences.
So, if you’re pulled over by the police, just do as your told, because while high-speed car-chases might look good in the movies, they are much, much messier in real life.
